Professor Anil Bhatti

PROFESSOR Anil Bhatti who passed away on October 11, 2023, was an outstanding Marxist scholar of German Philosophy and German Literature who taught for nearly four decades until his retirement in 2009, at the Centre for German Studies of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, and was an activist of the teachers’ movement at JNU. He was at various times the chairman of the Centre for German Studies at JNU, the dean of the School of Languages there,and the president of the Goethe Society of India.

Red Salute to Comrade Anathalavattom Anandan

COMRADE Anathalavattom Anandan , senior CPI(M) leader and CITU state president, passed away on October 5, after a prolonged illness. He was 86 years old. He became a devoted organiser of the coir workers very early and he actively led many militant struggles.Comrade Anathalavattom Anandan was an unwavering communist leader throughout his life with a steadfast commitment to the cause of the working class and the downtrodden.  With a wealth of experience spanning over seven decades, he emerged as an undisputed leader who will forever be remembered.

Comrade Samsul Haque

COMRADE Samsul Haque, CPI(M) Tripura state committee member, and a member of the Tripura legislative assembly elected in the recent assembly elections, a prominent peasant leader well known  for his dedication to farmers’ causes, passed away due to a fatal heart attack on the midnight of 18th July, 2023. He experienced severe chest pain while at the new MLA Hostel in the Capital Complex, Agartala.

Comrade Manik Dasgupta

COMRADE Manik Dasgupta, a peasant leader, former CPI(M) state committee member, and long-time secretary of CPI(M) Sonamura sub-divisional committee, passed away on May 4, 2022, in Agartala at the age of 83. He was suffering from kidney ailments. He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.Dasgupta was born in 1940 in Barai village, Mainamati district (now Bangladesh), and migrated to Tripura, where he became a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) through his involvement in the local peasant movement in 1969.
