Comrade Virender Singh

COMRADE Virender Singh, manager of Party’s central organs – People's Democracy, and Loklahar passed away on June 4, at a hospital in New Delhi. He was battling cancer for the last one and a half years.Comrade Virender was born on March 17, 1957, in Chimni village of Rohtak district, in Haryana. He did his schooling in the village itself and completed his graduation from Satzinda Kalyana College in Kalanaur.

Sivaji Patnaik

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on May 24THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses deep grief at the death of a veteran leader of the Party, Sivaji Patnaik. Patnaik was a former member of the Central Committee of the Party and also a former secretary of its Odisha state committee. He died on May 23, 2022. He was 92 years old.Born in a family of freedom fighters, Sivaji Patnaik joined the student movement and the undivided Communist Party at a very young age and very soon was elected to the state executive council of the CPI.

TN: Comrade MNS Venkataraman

COMRADE MNS Venkataraman (65), Tamil Nadu state secretariat member of CPI(M), passed away due to cardiac arrest on May 1 at 10.45 pm. He was returning to Madurai after addressing a May Day meeting at Cumbum, Theni district. He was travelling in a bus and on the way when he felt uneasy, and the bus crew helped him with a drink at a roadside shop where he took his last breath. He is survived by his wife, Padmini, and son, Surya.Born on May 17, 1957, in M Reddiyapatti village, Comrade Venkataraman graduated with B.Sc. (Geology) at Tuticorin.

Aijaz Ahmad

PROFESSOR Aijaz Ahmad, outstanding Marxist theorist and public intellectual died on March 9, 2022 in the United States. Aijaz Ahmad was one of the significant Marxist intellectuals who made a big contribution to defend and nurture Marxist theory, particularly in the post-Soviet era.His penetrating critique of Post-Marxist theories like post-modernism, his incisive writings on imperialism, Hindutva fascism and the rise of rightwing forces globally are a corpus which has enriched Marxist theory and practice.Aijaz Ahmad taught at various universities in the United States and India.

AIKS flagbearer Com Ratan Budhar passes away

COMRADE Ratan Budhar, 72, a senior member of the CPI(M) Maharashtra state committee and vice-president of the AIKS Maharashtra state council has passed away on December 19 due to a lung ailment. He was also a member of the Party’s Thane-Palghar district secretariat and president of the AIKS Thane-Palghar district council. He will be remembered as an extraordinary comrade who devoted over 50 years of his life to the Red Flag.

Comrade Sham Prasad Kesar

COMRADE Sham Prasad Kesar, state committee member and regional secretary of CPI(M) Jammu breathed his last on December 5th morning at Narayanan Hospital Katra.Comrade Sham Prasad Kesar remained a staunch fighter for the rights of working class. He was widely respected for his strong commitment for communal harmony and brotherhood in Jammu region. He never succumbed to the pressures of divisive forces.CPI(M) expresses condolences with the bereaved family and pays homage to the departed valiant comrade.

Comrade Pramila Pandhe

COMRADE Pramila Pandhe, veteran member of the Party passed away on October 31, 2021. She was 94 years old.Pramila Pandhe was born on November 26, 1927 in Bhusawal, Maharashtra. Her father, an official in the railway, was not politically active but was a follower of Bal Gangadhar Tilak and supported his ideas about independence. She started going for the ‘prabhat pheris’ at the age of seven with all the other children.

Comrade Saraju Datta

COMRADE Saraju Datta, a symbol of exemplary dedication, unyielding commitment and one of the torch-bearers in the movement for democracy and emancipation of women during the repressive rule of the feudal king in the state breathed her last in IGM Hospital, Agartala on October 5, 2021. She was wife of Biren Datta, one of the founding members of the Communist Party in the state during pre-independence days.

Comrade Saraju Datta attained membership of CPI in 1947.

Comrade Gautam Das

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on September 16THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its deep shock and grief at the sudden death of Gautam Das, member of its Central Committee and secretary of the Tripura state committee of the Party. He died this morning at a Kolkata hospital where he was undergoing treatment for Covid. He was 70 years old.Right from his school days, Gautam Das was active in politics as part of the student movement in the state. Even while in college he joined the Party’s weekly Desharkatha.

WEST BENGAL: Comrade Sudarshan Roy Chowdhury

COMRADE Sudarshan Roy Chowdhury, member of CPI(M) West Bengal state committee breathed his last after a brief illness on July 31. He was 75. Comrade Roy Chowdhury was secretary of Party’s Hooghly district committee from 2012-2019. He joined the militant students’ struggle in 1960s while in Presidency College.He participated in intense ideological battle against both revisionism and Left sectarianism and became one of the foremost leaders of the erstwhile BPSF. Later he joined the teaching profession and was a professor in Serampore College for long.
