TAMIL NADU: DYFI Leader Killed in Caste Dispute over Grass Bundle

TENSION and protest waves prevailed in Karaiyiruppu village of Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, over the death of Comrade Ashok, 26, district treasurer of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI),  who was hacked by a gang belonging to caste Hindu hooligans on June 12th night.Comrade Ashok was hacked to death by a gang, while he was walking home around 10.45 pm. The gang threw the body on a nearby railway track.

Protest against Bihar Govt’s Failure in Preventing Child Deaths

THE Delhi state units of the All India Democratic Women’s Association, Centre of Indian Trade Unions, Students’ Federation of India, Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch and Democratic Youth Federation of India held a joint protest demonstration at Bihar Bhawan, New Delhi on June 18 against the total failure of the Nitish Kumar led JD(U)-BJP state government in preventing the death of more than 107 children in Muzaffarpur. These are figures of the casualties in the hospitals. The number of children who have died in their homes is unaccounted.

West Bengal: Left Parties Rally for Peace and Harmony

THOUSANDS of people marched through streets in Kolkata, protesting against ongoing post-poll violence in West Bengal. Left parties and other supporting parties participated in the massive rally.West Bengal is witness to unending violence perpetrated by the TMC and the BJP in different parts of the state. More than 10 people have already died in clashes. Apart from loss of life, attack on houses, shops, arson, terror in villages have increased. In parts of the state, particularly in Barrackpore industrial area, this has turned communal too.

Tamil Nadu: ‘Rice Bowl’ under Attack: Kisan Sabha Leads Protest

THE Cauvery Delta districts of Tamil Nadu are considered as the “rice bowl” of the region. The rich soil of this area is known for its three-crop cycle a year producing many a variety of rice, the most famous being Samba Rice. Such a fertile delta land area is being turned into a desert, by allowing capitalist forces to extract hydro-carbon from this rich soil.  In 2016, the central government introduced a new policy of extraction of hydro-carbon materials from the early findings of such reserve across the country.

Local Body Elections in Telangana

IN Telangana state local elections for Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTC) and Zila Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTC) were held in three phases, from May 6 -14. Results were announced on June 4. Out of a total 5,817 MPTCs, TRS gained 3545, Congress 1,392, BJP 210, CPI(M) 50, CPI 40, TDP 22 and others 562. The president posts of MPP were overwhelmingly cornered by the party in power i.e.,  TRS. Out of total posts TRS gained 79 per cent, Congress 11 per cent, BJP 1.49 per cent.

THE RSS and the sangh parivar are like an epiphyte on a tree; and just like the plant that has its roots in the tree, the RSS also draws its nutrients from the governance structure created by the BJP and it continues to nourish itself even when the BJP is not there. The roots once embedded are very strong. And this is what is being witnessed in MP.Madhya Pradesh is considered as a laboratory for the sangh parivar. The RSS has made strong inroads into the governance structure, right from officers to the lowest rung.
