Motor Vehicle Bill Curtails States’ Powers, Favours Corporates

THE CPI(M) vehemently opposed the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in Parliament. The party said that the government, under the garb of enhanced road safety, is handing over the entire road transport sector to corporates and directly encroaching upon the powers of state governments.In Lok Sabha, P R Natarajan said five amendments are directly encroaching upon the powers of the states and will have serious impact on the states’ revenue, functioning of state transport undertakings and motor vehicles departments.

Protest in West Bengal

THOUSANDS of Left activists and supporters came out on the streets in West Bengal to protest authoritarian attack on the constitution by abrogating special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the constitution and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir. Braving hate campaign, the CPI(M) organised a protest rally on  August 5 itself, hours after the announcement in the parliament. The rally in Kolkata was attended by CPI(M) leaders including Biman Basu, Surjya Kanta Misra and Mohammad Salim.

National Convention against State Complicity in Hate Crimes

BRUTAL hate crimes against minorities have become more frequent and more widespread after the Narendra Modi government got re-elected. Hindutva storm-troopers are imparting to ‘Jai Shri Ram’, ‘Vande Mataram’, ‘Bharat Mata’ slogans etc an aggressiveness that is shocking the nation. The most disturbing aspect of these developments is the complicity of the State machinery. Three Killed in Mob Lynching

A DELEGATION of the CPI(M) Bihar state visited Paigambarpur village in Bihar, the native village of Naushad, Raju Nat and Bidesi Nat (all three were lynched on July 19) on July 20. The delegation comprised Awdesh Kumar, state secretary of the Party, Ajay Kumar and Ahmad Ali, state secretariat members and Shivshankar Prasad Rai, district secretary of CPI(M) Saran.FACTS OF THE CASEThe mob lynching case in which all the three were brutally killed occurred in Pithori village.

MAHARASHTRA: Peasants Denounce Anti-Adivasi Stance of BJP Regime

ON July 23, 2019, a massive 25,000-strong rally, public meeting and gherao was held by the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) and the Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch (AARM) at the Sub Divisional Office (SDO) at Kalwan in the Nashik district of Maharashtra. The huge mass marched five kilometers through Kalwan town and encircled the SDO from all sides. It comprised peasants from nearly all tehsils of Nashik district. While most of them were adivasis, there were thousands of non-adivasi farmers as well.

THE massacre of 10‘Gond’ tribals in Umbha village in Sonbhadra district of UP is not a spontaneous incident. It reveals the deeply drenched feudal fabric of our system, where the State has helped the influential upper caste against the poor tribals. Tripura: A Huge Scam in Paddy Procurement?

THE much hyped paddy procurement drive of the BJP led state government is turning out to be a totally fraudulent exercise. While the actual farmers are being deprived, middlemen are eating up the profit. Recently in Khowai subdivision, paddy procurement programme was held. It was widely circulated that the food department will procure paddy directly from the farmers. But farmers found to their astonishment that a number of non-farmers have also received 'Farmer Certificate' from the agriculture department.
