Investigate Tragedy at Rajahmundry

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on July 14, 2015

THE Polit Bureau expresses its sorrow at the death of 32 people, mainly women and children, and at the injuries suffered by many others, in the stampede at the Godavari “Pushkaralu” in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh. It is reported that the death toll is rising. It conveys its condolences to the bereaved families.

Disclose Text of Defence Framework Agreement

IN a letter addressed to defence minister Manohar Parrikar on July 3, 2015, CPI(M) general secretary, Sitaram Yechury has asked that the contents of the Defence Framework Agreement with the United States be made public. He said the defence minister had signed the ten-year Defence Framework Agreement with the United States government on June 3, 2015. The reports about this agreement have also appeared in the media. However, the text of the agreement has so far not been made public.

Thinking Together

THE People’s Democracy had in earlier years carried a regular column called “Thinking Together”. This column would answer questions sent by readers on topical issues and the Party’s view on such issues. The column also used to answer questions regarding the Party’s policies and understanding on major national and international developments.

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), now in session at Delhi, has issued the following statement on July 6, 2015

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) warmly congratulates the people of Greece who have given a resounding “No” verdict in the referendum. With a 61.3 percent vote, the Greek people have resoundingly rejected the bailout austerity measures sought to be imposed upon them by the neo-liberal forces represented by the Troika comprising the IMF, European Central Bank and the European Commission.

DATA from the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) blows the myth of inclusive growth and shows conclusively that the set of economic policies followed have resulted in massive deprivation and denial of minimum standards of living to a vast section of the population.

Stop Sabotage of Malegaon Case

THE revelation by the Special Public Prosecutor in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, Rohini Salian that she has been pressurised by an officer of the National Investigation Agency to go soft in the case is a matter of deep concern.

SAHMAT Supports FTII Protests

Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust (SAHMAT) has issued the following statement on June 16.

WE feel very disturbed by the developments that have happened at FTII Pune. One cannot allow this institution to be pulled down by the government with such insensitivity. These are places of higher learning and cutting edge technology. FTII has great legacy and that has to continue on that path. We fully support the protests of the students. Save FTII is to save freedom of expression and intellectual freedom.
