Resurgence of Trade Unions in the US

THE United States never fails to project itself as the champion of human rights. But, recent media reports have exposed its ugly track record of suppressing basic trade union rights. The big corporations of the United States don’t take kindly to trade unions. Trade union busting activities are reported to be a routine affair of these corporations. As a part of this, every employee has to attend anti-union meetings.

All India Apple Farmers Day Observed

FOLLOWING the call given by the Apple Farmers’ Federation of India (AFFI) to observe October 21 as ‘National Apple Day’, apple growers in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir expressed their discontentment with the union and state governments for taking anti-farmer policy steps that have hit the apple economy hard in both the regions, which account for more than 95 per cent of India’s total apple production. 

Competitive Commission of India fines Google

THE Competition Commission of India (CCI) has recently fined Google in two separate rulings. In the first ruling, the CCI imposed a fine of Rs 1,337.76 crores on Google for "abusing its dominant position in multiple markets in the Android Mobile device ecosystem". In the second ruling, the CCI imposed a fine of Rs 936.44 crores on Google for "for abusing its dominant position with respect to its Play Store policies".

IMCWP Meeting Held for the First Time in Cuba

THE 22nd International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties (IMCWP) held from October 27-29 at the Havana Convention Palace was attended by delegates from 65 countries from all the continents. ‘United we are stronger’ is the slogan of the event in which representatives of 82 political forces and 31 delegations headed by their presidents or general secretaries participated. The theme of the IMCWP is ‘Solidarity with Cuba and all the struggling peoples.

Comrade Kumar Shiralkar: A Multi-Faceted Revolutionary

WITH the passing of Comrade Kumar Shiralkar on October 2, 2022 at the age of 80 due to cancer, the CPI(M) and the Left democratic movement of Maharashtra has lost a dedicated, multi-faceted revolutionary leader. I have lost a true comrade and friend of the last 40 years.Kumar was born in a middle-class family at Miraj in Sangli district of Maharashtra on January 10, 1942. He completed his B.E.
