Comrade Joni Tiru, local committee secretary of Namkum (West), Ranchi district, who had struggled against the land mafia all his life, was brutally murdered by miscreants. He was also secretary of Sodag Gram Sabha. The gram pradhan of Sodag, Kailash Khoya was also murdered.

Condemning this brutal murder, a protest march was organised by CPI(M) Ranchi district committee on July 18, 2014 to Tupudana. Hundreds of people joined the protest march. Brinda Karat, Polit Bureau Member of the CPI(M) met with Narmi Premika Tidu, wife of martyred Comrade Joni Tidu and Fulmani Khoya, wife of Kailash Khoya.
