Gujarat: CPI(M) State Conference Concludes with Great Enthusiasm

THE 24th State Conference of CPI(M) Gujarat was held at Upleta in Rajkot district on January 11-12, 2025. It was attended by 192 delegates from 11 districts. Of them, 56 were women. There was also a good chunk of youth.

The inaugural session began after the flag-hoisting by the senior most leader Maganbhai Jivani and floral tributes to the martyrs. After election of the presidium and different committees, state secretary Hitendra Bhatt moved the condolence resolution. The conference venue was named after Sitaram Yechury. The inaugural session was attended by more than 300 people. Kiranben Kalavadia, chairperson of the reception committee, delivered the welcome speech. Prominent personalities of Upleta city were present. Pragjibhai Bhambhi, former state secretary, presided over the inaugural session.

CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Ashok Dhawale inaugurated the conference. He explained the present political and economic challenges in the world which arose out of the neoliberal capitalist onslaught. He stressed on the danger of imperialism and Zionism in the international sphere, giving examples of the terrible US-backed Israeli genocide in Palestine and the Ukraine war. Coming to the national sphere, he strongly attacked the pro-corporate, anti-people, communal, Manuwadi, and authoritarian agenda of the RSS that is being implemented by the BJP-led central and state governments. While underlining the need for unity of all secular forces to counter and defeat the RSS-BJP, he also highlighted the key importance of rapidly increasing the independent strength and influence of the CPI(M) and the Left.

In the delegate session, Hitendra Bhatt presented the political report. 24 delegates from different districts participated in the discussions on the report. Central committee member Arun Mehta presented the organisational report and 17 delegates took part in the discussions on the report. The discussions were lively and enthusiastic. After the replies, both the reports were unanimously adopted.  

A seminar was held at the Upleta Town Hall on the topic "Farmers' Problems and their Solution". It was addressed by Ashok Dhawale, Muralidharan, and Dahyabhai Gajera.

On January 12th morning, a booklet titled "Communist ideology" written by veteran leader and former state secretary late Subodh Mehta was released by Ashok Dhawale. The credential report was placed by Uday Joshi. The conference adopted 12 different resolutions.

The state conference unanimously elected a 30-member new state committee and the permanent invitees. The new state committee re-elected Hitendra Bhatt as the state secretary. Six delegates, two alternate delegates, two observers were elected to the Party Congress.   

The state conference concluded with the speech of CPI(M) central secretariat member Murlidharan, who placed the strengths to be enhanced, the weaknesses to be overcome, and the direction for future advance, to strengthen the Party in the state. Dahyabhai Gajera and Arun Mehta placed the vote of thanks and the conference ended with resounding slogans.
