THE Students’ Federation of India (SFI) secured a significant victory in the Kannur University college union elections, winning 45 out of the 65 college unions spread across Kasaragod, Kannur and Wayanad districts. In the second phase of the election held in Kannur University, SFI achieved complete victory in all the five departmental centres where the elections were held.
SFI also won has a landslide victory in the college union elections in Calicut University. SFI won in 102 out of the 171 colleges where elections were held on an organisational basis. This includes 29 college unions where SFI won unopposed.
In Mahatma Gandhi University, SFI emerged triumphant in 104 colleges out of 129 colleges. In 62 colleges, the SFI panels won unopposed. SFI emerged victorious in 64 out of 77 campuses under Kerala University where elections were held.
Earlier, SFI had also registered massive victories in Polytechnic College Union Elections and School Parliament elections.
In many colleges, all-girl panels emerged victorious, making history.
SFI's state leadership said that this victory is a befitting reply to the governor and the media which has been spreading false allegations against the organisation. SFI contested this year's elections with the slogan "Rise in Rage against the Blatant Lies."
Students of University College, Thiruvananthapuram, made history when they elected a young woman, 19-year-old SFI candidate N S Farishtah, as chairperson of their student union. This is the first time in the college's 158-year-history that a woman heads the union. Out of the 14-member student union, nine are women.
