COMRADE Suhrid Dutta, former member of CPI(M) Hooghly district committee and former secretary of Singur zonal committee, breathed his last on November 9, at his home in Apurbapur village. He had been unwell for a long time. He was 77 years old. He was unmarried and is survived by his elder brother, two younger sisters and two younger brothers.  Comrade Dutta was currently a member of the Party's district centre branch.

Comrade Suhrid Dutta was born in Bikrampur, Dhaka, in undivided Bengal. He was born on April 18, 1946. He moved to West Bengal with his family after partition. Comrade Suhrid Dutta has struggled with poverty since childhood. Although he got his LCE (Licentiate Civil Engineer) degree from Hooghly Institution of Technology, he never joined any job permanently. He became a member of CPI(M) in 1967. After that he worked like a full-time party worker. However, he did not take any allowance from the Party. He led the kisan movement across Singur police station area. His role in the spread of micro-irrigation in Singur was also significant. He played an important role in the youth movement as well.

He became the Singur Zonal Committee Secretary of the party in 2004. He was the organiser of the Singur Book Fair to promote healthy culture. 
The Hooghly district committee of the Party expressed deep grief over his death. Leaders and workers of various mass organisations paid homage to the departed leader. A funeral procession carrying his body was taken out from the CPI(M) office in Singur Bazar.
