COMMUNIST Party of India (Marxist) general secretary, Sitaram Yechury on Friday, November 19, said the protesting farmers have succeeded in forcing an "obdurate" prime minister and his government to bend and accept their demand of repealing the "three black laws".

Yechury said this at a press conference in Delhi, hours after the prime minister, Narendra Modi said the centre has decided to repeal the three agriculture laws, which the farmers have been protesting since November 26, 2020, under the leadership of Samyukta  Kisan Morcha (SKM), terming it "anti-farmer''.
"This is a huge victory for farmers. It is also a victory for all people of the country, who are struggling to repeal other 'draconian' laws," he added.

Attacking the PM, the CPI(M) leader said,  "Over 750  farmers have been martyred in the farmers' protests. The PM did not utter a single word of remorse or condolence that these lives were lost."

He demanded that justice should be delivered to people who lost their lives in the protests. Yechury also reiterated the demand to dismiss the union minister of state for home,  Ajay Mishra Teni over the Lakhimpur Kheri incident in UP.

On PM's announcement of the formation of a committee to make minimum support price (MSP) more effective and transparent and other issues, the CPI(M) leader said, "Now a Committee has been announced by the PM to examine this issue. This was the issue when the PM was the chief minister of Gujarat, 11 years ago. He had then written to the centre that MSP should be a legal entitlement. There is no need for committees. This means only for delaying and actually denying."

Yechury said the CPI(M) endorsed the SKM’s approach that they will take a final call, only when all official procedures are completed in the matter of the repeal.
